Field Notes From Taylor Swift's Predictably Quirky Tenn. Pad

Is there any possible universe where Taylor Swift's Nashville apartment is anything but "whimsically girlie, dreamy, appointed in a style you might call Shabby-Chic Alice in Wonderland," as described in a recent New York Magazine profile? The pop star's humblebraggy front of girl-next-door status is so unbroken, her admissions of humanizing weirdness and denigrations of strawman hipsterdom so constant, how could this abode of hers be any other way? Though Swift's ventures into the world of high-end real estate have been thoroughly documented, the inside of her Tennessee abode—potentially the very seat of her power, just a stone's throw from "the famous epicenter of the country-music industrial complex, the strip of song-publishing firms, recording studios, and record labels known as Music Row"—still has yet to be photographed fully decorated, so we'll have to glean what we can from the field notes others have taken inside this hallowed sanctum.

Swift's "very pleasant, very visually busy" apartment, which by her own admission took her years to complete, is said to resemble "a stage set for a production of Romeo and Juliet—or for the scene in the final verse of Swift's 2008 hit 'Love Story.'" You want tchotchkes? Swift decorated the place with a veritable Anthropologie window installation of them: ceilings hung with "gathered silk, wooden birdcages, chandeliers, lanterns," and in one corner, "a topiary rabbit, as tall as an NBA shooting guard, wearing a marching-band hat." One guest bedroom is decorated with "an eye-popping cacophony of patterned wallpaper and fabrics. 'I wanted, like, every color,' she said."

One particularly telling affectation of Chez Swift is a photo hanging in her living room in a gilded frame, the infamous snapshot of Kanye West interrupting her acceptance speech at the 2009 Video Music Awards. Underneath, a caption handwritten by Swift reads "Life is full of little interruptions," because as her breakup songs and mid-VMA comments about Harry Styles have proven, nothing is more characteristically Swiftian than forever enshrining the ways in which others have wronged her.

But leaving aside the darker waters of Swift's public persona, her apartment sounds like a fun thing to stare at. One thousand Internet points to the soul who convinces her to permit a photo-heavy Elle Decor feature.
