Ford Fiesta Named Women’s Car of the Year

While automotive journalists may fawn over the North American Car of the Year or World Green Car of the Year awards, an award that warrants equal attention might be the Women’s World Car of the Year. This year’s winner: the Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost, citing its sophisticated styling, practical powertrain, and leading-edge in-car technology.

According to Chief Judge, Sandy Myhre, the voting process features a new three-tier system, indented to make it more difficult for a car to earn its way to the final selection process. “There is no other international motoring award in the world,” cited Myhre, “which is voted for by women and with women in mind.”

In response, Craig Von Essen, a representative of Ford’s Asia-Pacific and African divisions, was “thrilled,” and underscored the significance of the award. “Women pack powerful purchasing power,” said Von Essen, “representing a huge market opportunity. The fact that a respected panel of published and specialist women motoring writers selected the Ford Fiesta 1.0l EcoBoost is a significant accolade.”

While the Fiesta was the overall champion, winners of the individual categories included the Audi Allroad (Family Car), Land Rover Range Rover (Luxury Car), Porsche Boxster S (Sportscar), Mazda CX-5 (SUV), and the Ford Fiesta 1.0L EcoBoost (Economy Car).

Ford will be presented with the Women’s World Car of the Year Award in London this October, where each of the individual winners will also be awarded.
