Greta Garbo's personal belongings fetch $1.6m at auction

London, Dec 18 (ANI): Legendary actress Greta Garbo's most personal items, from her US passport to her favourite handbags, went under the hammer to fetch 1.6 million dollars at an auction.

According to Julien's Auctions, the two-day sale of clothing, jewelry and other memorabilia belonging to reclusive movie star, the auction fetched more than three times the original estimate, the Daily Mail reported.

The actress' Louis Vuitton streamer trunk was among the top sellers, the winning bid reaching 37,500 dollars, along with three leather driving caps she wore in a 1924 car advertisement which sold for 15,000 dollars.

The auction of 800 items began on Friday, and other items, including the US passport issued to her in 1964, sold for 15,000 dollars - three times the estimate of 3,000-5,000 dollars.

A black velvet evening dress from the Thirties that had an estimated value of 1,200 dollars went to the highest bidder for 13,750 dollars.

An antique gold pocket knife sold for 8,960 dollars, her jewelry set for 9,600 dollars, a favourite pair of Ferragamo shoes hit 8,125 dollars, and a Maltese cross brooch went for 13,750 dollars.

All of the items in the sale had been kept in storage before her family decided to sell them in the auction that was announced in August.

There was also a platform bed she designed with antique Swedish carvings, plus photos, luggage and personal documents. (ANI)
