By Joginder Tuteja, Glamsham EditorialGIPPI arrives in a fortnight from now and for filmmaker Karan Johar; it is en entry into a new world of filmmaking. However before one uses the term 'offbeat' for the film, Karan re-emphasises the fact that this Sonam Nair directed film is more of a pet project for him than anything else.
"I felt happy when I read the script that Sonam had to offer. In fact I remember reading it one go and loving it so much that I gave an instant consent. By no means was it the love of making something different or for that matter offbeat, a term that is not all associated with my films. Instead, I just instinctively felt that here was a story which had to be told," says Karan who is introducing yet another debutant director to the industry.
He was also touched by the fact that GIPPI had quite a few episodes that were straight out of Sonam's life.
"As a matter of fact, Sonam has been a GIPPI in her teen years. In a way, the film is catharsis for her. So who better than her to make a film about herself? I am very happy with the reactions so far to the film. It has its own tiny buzz surrounding it," Karan adds.
While that indeed is true, what is also pretty visible is the fact that Sonam Nair is seemingly following the ethos of Dharma Films with her debut affair.
"I think drama and emotions have been the crux of our films. Now that is something that Sonam has stuck to," affirms Karan, "I don't like to make empty films that don't say anything emotional. This is something that Sonam also bears in her mind. I have complete faith in her and the results would be there to be seen."
We would when the film releases all over on 10th May.
