LISTEN...AMAYA and pairing of stars in Hindi cinema

By Enkayaar, Glamsham Editorial

With the release of LISTEN...AMAYA the present generation of movie goers would indeed get an opportunity to understand and imbibe what pairing of stars meant in the world of Hindi cinema in the era gone by. LISTEN...AMAYA marks the return of Farooque Shaikh and Deepti Naval as the pair who gave a new paradigm and idiom to the urban romance for an emerging middle class in the early eighties manifest through films like CHASHME BUDDOOR. There was no pretense to this pairing, but a simple approach of a boy meets girl in the urban surroundings and both falling in love with each other and trying to sneak moments of togetherness, not by-passing the societal norms of those times.

Now that two decades have gone by the pair returns to the silver screen once again with LISTEN...AMAYA which in sync with the age bracket that they now represent is a love story of adults who having fulfilled their responsibilities now find that the world has moved on, and to survive in this world, they need to find someone who understands the situation and is empathic. It is an existentialist dilemma that the couples who had fallen in love in early eighties now falling in the second decade of the new millennium, faced with the situation where their partners have passed away, or they have not betrothed to fulfill responsibilities or to explore life, but now feel the urge to have a partner.

On the eve of the release of LISTEN... AMAYA here is a list of such pairs who came back again after more than a decade and rekindled the aura around themselves with the fans:

Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini: This lead pair from the past made everybody's head turn in amazement with the chemistry that they shared in BAGHBAN, BAABUL, and VEER-ZAARA were more able to weave the miasma of romance once again that they had kindled with NASTIK, SATTE PE SATTA etc. more than two decades ago.

Rishi Kapoor- Neetu Singh: The pair that epitomized romance on the silver screen more than two decades ago was able to rekindle the same passion when they reappeared together. Though they made their first appearance together in LOVE AAJ KAL, it was DO DOONI CHAAR and the last film of Yash Chopra, JAB TAK HAI JAAN where they again were seen as couple madly in love and it felt as if they had started again from where they had left in the early eighties.

Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla: They had acted together in the comic caper SAFARI more than two decades ago, and were paired again opposite each other in SON OF SARDAAR, and one could feel that the reluctant romance that they portrayed had more passion embedded in it than what they could convey in SAFARI.

The success of the pairing of Deepti Naval and Farooque Shaikh in LISTEN...AMAYA could indeed pave the way for more such adult romances on the screen; say a romance between a Big B and a Sridevi, a romance between an Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit for that matter as well.
