Madhur Bhandarkar: 'I am a happy man with the response Heroine has got'

Though Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine received a lukewarm response at the box-office, the filmmaker claims that he is happy with the response that the film has got from the audiences.

Madhur took to his blog, to thank the audiences for liking his magnum opus. "After 72 days of extensive shooting and great team work, I am a happy man with the response Heroine has got. So to begin with, I am thankful to all of you, my audience, for whom I make my film. It's not an easy task to make a film that is about your own industry and yet I am glad that everything fell in place," he posted on his blog.

"I have always been known for making films in controlled budget. Heroine was made on a controlled budget of Rs 21 crs and released at the cost of Rs 32cr with print and publicity and it had garnered a net collection of nearly Rs 53.5 cr worldwide by the second week, which is a phenomenal verdict for a heroine oriented film. While my film Fashion had garnered Rs 27 cr life time. It was termed as a super hit! In fact what was heartening was the overseas opening of Heroine was the highest for my female oriented film," the filmmaker revealed.

Bhandarkar also mentioned that though he has always been advised to make less risky films, he still wants to tread the off-beat path. He also thanked the cast and crew of 'Heroine' writing, "I was very glad for Kareena, whose performance was widely applauded and appreciated. Heroine would not have been an experience to cherish and a success to enjoy if not for my entire team. May it be Kareena, Arjun, Randeep, Divya, Shahana, my team of writers, technicians, direction, production, marketing team and PR team. Beliefs strengthened with the support of Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur . A final bow down on the chapter of Heroine… there are lots of stories to be told… and I shall be back with one very soon!."

Starring Kareena Kapoor in the lead role Heroine released on September 21, 2012.
