MASOOM remake with Abhi-Ash-The actual situation!

By Abid, Glamsham Editorial

It was anews that gladdened the hearts of countless fans of Abhi-Aish. We are indeed talking about the MASOOM remake starring the 'always' hot and happening couple, Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan, which made headlines all over the tinsel town, as well as print and electronic media. And rightly so!

The iconic social-drama was a super duper hit. With laudable performances by class actors Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azami, Supriya Pathak and not to forget the child prodigy Jugal Hansraj, memorable music that is still popular (who can forget the iconic 'Lakdi Ki Kaathi', 'Tujh Se Naraaz' and 'Huzoor Is Qadar') and identifiable drama, the film is still etched in the hearts of movie buffs.

So, the news of Himesh Reshammiya acquiring the rights of Shekhar Kapoor's MASOOM from producers Devi Dutta and Chandan Dutt was indeed welcomed with open arms by all. However we are afraid that situation is not as simple as it looks, as the MASOOM remake appears to be in for trouble.

As per the trade, well known and highly respected Bombay distributor and exhibitor, Shyam Shroff of Shringar Films, expressed his shock at the news that Himesh Reshammiya has acquired the remake rights of MASOOM from the producers. Says Says Shyam Shroff to a leading trade source, "Shringar holds the complete negative and IP rights of MASOOM. We bought the same from Devi Dutt way back in the 1990s."

Well, what can we say, except that hopefully the hurdles are removed as soon as possible so that the film gets rolling fast.
