Neil Nitin Mukesh: Intimate scenes in DAVID is not to sell sex or titillate

By Rachana Sheth, Glamsham Editorial

Besides its unusual concept Bejoy Nambiar's much-in news upcoming release DAVID has grabbed the attention for the copious intimate scenes between the lead actors Neil Nitin Mukesh and Monica Dogra.

These days where selling a film through sexual content is emerging as a new trend, Neil maintains that the intimate scenes in DAVID are not to titillate or sell sex.

Neil says, "Well, the intimate scenes are not there for titillation. They are very beautiful moments in the film. Unfortunately our media or our people or our perception has become like that that the moment a man holds the woman's hand they over react to it. I feel it's a very beautiful moment. In fact every time when I see it on the screen I get tears in my eyes. Having said that it's not there to sell sex. It is not there to promote the film in a way saying that 'okay our film also has this kind of content' so come and watch the film. DAVID is way above that. There are films which cater to that topic but ours is a totally different film."

But ask Neil who comforted whom while performing the intimate scenes and he swiftly replied, "Honestly, Monica is responsible for me being very comfortable in doing any sort of those scenes because, I am extremely a shy guy. Monica is a darling! She is a beautiful co-star, as she is a beautiful human being. She is a brilliant performer, a very good actor. She has that uncanny way of getting her own to the character. I underestimated her a lot initially but she really shocked me. You'll know the difference in the chemistry instantly on-screen. Our chemistry is beautiful on-screen."

Both Neil and Monica have a singing background. Besides being good actors they are singers too. However, for their film DAVID they didn't lend their voice. When asked about not crooning for their film, Neil said, "Monica was too busy to lend her voice. As for me, I did not want to fiddle with singing. I just wanted to concentrate on acting and my performance."

Also starring southern star Vikram, Vinay Virmani in the titular roles alongside Tabu, Lara Dutta and Isha Shravani, the action-thriller is all set to release on February 1st, 2013.
