Ramaiya Vastavaiya Music Review

RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA seems to be the perfect launch pad for Girish Taurani, the scion of the Tips Music Films' head, Kumar Taurani. Directed by one of the most commercially successful directors, Prabhudheva (WANTED AND ROWDY RATHORE), the genre is the tried and tested one, romance, which offers the composer duo Sachin-Jigar a lot of scope to come up with some melodious music. Sachin-Jigar are certainly riding high after scoring an ace with GO GOA GONE, the chartbusting music of which is still popular amongst youth. And we do expect the talented duo along with their reliable lyricist, Priya Panchal, to deliver some outstanding scores, especially so as this offering is from the house of Tips Music Films who have a good track record as far as music is concerned. Safe as a house, the Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal combo weave the magic with the very first track, 'Jeene Laga Hoon'. The duo have always been part of compositions that have worked big time for Tips (especially Atif), and this number surely goes down as one! The tune is addictive, the musical arrangements mesmerizing (santoor and guitar) and lyrics simple but effective. Shreya and Atif come back with yet another classy romantic track, 'Bairiya', and even though the tune is a bit slow to start with, it picks up superbly and the end result is simply fantastic. The use of Middle Eastern instruments (Oudh and Rubab) along with Hindustani is a delight and so are the lyrics. 'Rang Jo Lagyo' starts of as another soft, melodious romantic number, but just like 'Bairiya', the pick - up pace is simply brilliant and the crescendo/'mukhda' awesome. Atif is absolutely mind-blowing, and even though Shreya comes in briefly and is used more as a backup support, she leaves a mark. The mood changes to a playful one with 'Peecha Chhute', a situational number where the lead is looking for his beloved and is tired of the philandering ways of his heart. Mohit deviates from his usual somber stuff and is quite at ease with this fun and frolic number. Lyrics are quite novel and identifiable even though the situation is very typical. Situational ode to the up-market Pammi, 'Hip Hop Pammi' is a carefree, innocent chhed-chaad number between the leads. The song has Bhangra at its base and is interesting. Well rendered by Mika and Monali it makes for a good hear and will surely translate well on the big screen. The item number, 'Jadoo Ki Jhappi', which appears in two parts and features hot Jacqueline Fernandez and the director himself (dancing sensation Prabhudheva), is rendered by Neha Kakkar and Mika. The 'lavni' based number is quite rhythmic and the folksy (Marathi) tune, albeit an oft heard one will appeal to the target audience, especially as it being promoted quite aggressively. Traces of 'Dhinka Chika' do appear at a few junctures. The second part (Reprise) is more pacy and heavily orchestrated (added percussion) and the lyrics are changed somewhat and is a brief one. Summing up, the audio of RAMAIYA VASTAVAIYA does befit the fact that it is an offering from the reputed house of Tips, and Sachin-Jigar (after GO GOA GONE), succeed in delivering another good album. Songs like 'Jeene Laga Hoon', 'Rang Jo Lagayo' and 'Peecha Chhute' are the pick of the lot and have already scaled the charts and the album is peaking at just the right time to ensure a decent opening when the film releases all over on July 19th.
