Remembering Divya Bharti

Divya Bharti died in 1993
Divya Bharti would have celebrated her 40th birthday on 25th February 2014. The 1993 death of the young and successful actress continues to be a mystery. The actress fell to death from a window sill and there were reports suggesting that she was depressed.

Divya Bharti shot to fame at a very young age with films like "Shola Aur Shabnam" and "Deewana". She died at a tender age of 19 in 1993, and the cause of her death remains a mystery. While there was once speculation that she might have been murdered, there were no real leads in that theory. Some said that she was drunk and her death was purely accidental, she slipped and fell from the balcony.

Two decades after actress Divya Bharti died under mysterious circumstances after falling from the balconey of her flat, director Vikram Sandhu (who made Shaheed Bhagat Singh) was reportedly going to make a biopic on the actress' life. This announcement was made in July 2012.

However, when contacted, though Sandhu had not confirmed that the story is based on Bharti's life, he nevertheless was quoted to have said, "My film is based on a young girl in her teens, who becomes an
overnight star and how her journey from a small town girl to fame leads her to a drastic stage. It might sound similar to some real character but it is not based on any particular star."

Despite Sandhu's claims that the story is not based on any particular person, sources insist that Sandhu was looking for an actress who resembles Divya Bharti, to play the lead role.

The Hindi film industry has had it's share of tragic deaths, the latest victim being Jiah Khan.
