Your Ride: 2011 Dragon Motor Cars SeriesII

For those of us lucky to have enough extra scratch for a track day car, more often then not, we’d usually go see the good folks at Lucra, or Caterham, or even KTM. A few automakers who know their way around a performance-driven track car.

But what about Dragon Motor Cars? The relatively niche automaker has been producing stunning tracksters out of New Hampshire since 2001, and one of our readers Fred Wood completed his very own custom Dragon SeriesII for us all to drool over. Here’s the full story:

Dragon SeriesII

How did you acquire your ride?

The car is a highly customized version of a  kit made by Dragon Motor Cars. I decided to build a car after I had completed the rebuild of a small block Chevy that was removed from a Scarab race car.

What drew you in when you bought it?

I wanted a kit that was Chevy based since I am a retired GM chassis development engineer. I have always been attracted to sports racers of the Scarab, Lister  and Devin ilk. I found the Dragon kit which had a nice body shape, well-designed frame and used corvette C4 chassis components.

Dragon SeriesII 3

Does it have a name?

I have kept the Dragon name.

What have you done to make it a bolder ride?

I started the build in 2007 and completed it in 2011. Many modifications have been done to get to the car I envisioned.  I have been doing ongoing development the last couple years. It is basically a slightly tamed race car- on the street- which is exactly what I had in mind. I did the complete build except for wiring and paint.

Dragon SeriesII 4

Dream accessory for it and why?

I would like to do a gull wing top sometime in the future to make it more versatile. I have attached a build spec sheet that details modifications. Only 9 or 10 Dragons are on the street.
