Saare Jahaan Se Mehnga... Music Review

By Rafat, Glamsham Editorial

With their previous venture, PHAS GAYA RE OBAMA (PGRO), receiving lots of critical acclaim and commercial success as well, producer Ashok Pandey's Revel Films' next, SAARE JAHAAN SE MEHNGA..., becomes a keenly awaited film. Director Anshul Sharma's satirical and humorous take on the ongoing malady, inflation, that is plaguing the society, has music by a relatively fresh talent, Manish J Tipu, who had done a good enough job in PGRO. But this time the lyrics have been penned by Naveen Tyagi. So let's get the ball rolling and check out their latest offering. The first track that one comes across is 'Lag Gai', and it can be termed as the theme song as it aptly and in a very entertaining way gives a good insight into the film as a whole, helped to a vast extent by some apt and satirical lyrics by Naveen Tyagi mocking the political ideologies of all the parties (Left, right and centre!). The recitation of 'dohas' (couplets) beforehand (like in 'Kavi Sammelans') is hilarious! The talented trio, Tochi Raina, Shriram Iyer and the composer himself do a superb job. 'Lag Gai' remixed by DJ Suketu at Feat Aks is superb , just right for the clubs and discos with added pace, beats and rhythm. The love duet, 'Bolo Na', sung by two classy artists, Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, is in the same league as any super hit love ballad from romance king SRK! its superb musical arrangements, lovely melody, and outstanding rendition make for an excellent love ballad that transports listeners to the romantic Swiss Alps. The master of chartbusters Mika Singh comes in for another situational number, 'Aoun De' that is a celebratory Punjabi folk 'Bhangra' based dance number, and has its inspiration from 'Sajh Dhaj Ke' (MAUSAM). The USP is the lyrics that are a hilarious mix of simple Punjabi and Hindi. The remixed version of 'Aoun De' by DJ Suketu at Feat Aks is more pacy and more dance inducing. After a chartbusting effort in 'Naino Mein Sapna' ( HIMMATWALA), Amit Kumar does an excellent take off once again in the style of his legendary dad, Kishore Kumar, as the composer goes all out retro with the last number, 'Kismat Ki Bell Baji'. The situation, where the lead protagonists are in a happy mood after a long span of misery andpoverty is handled well by the lyricist and composer. The audio of SAARE JAHAAN SE MEHNGA....has some good scores that have been intelligently composed, and as most of the songs are situational they help in taking the narrative of the film forward. Our favourites are 'Lag Gai' and 'Aoun De' and they will surely add 'chaar-chaand' to the hilariously satirical and highly identifiable film which releases all over on 8th March.

By Carolyn Cohn ZIGUNICHOR, Senegal (Reuters) - A mix of locals and music fans were watching silently or dancing, framed by the branches of the giant "fromager" tree that marks the centre of the Senegalese village of Diembering, as hip-hop band Tirailleurs started to sing about me. Or at least apparently they did - if only I could understand their Wolof language. Tirailleurs were performing at the four-day Festival des Rizieres, an annual celebration of hip-hop and reggae in the southern …
