Shanmugasundaram finds outdoor shooting challenging

Chennai, Nov 21 (IANS) Tamil cinematographer Shanmugasundaram feels that despite the availability of advanced technology and digital cameras shooting outdoors is a challenging task.

"In spite of all digital equipment and advanced camera such as 5D, I still find shooting outdoors a challenge because there are just too many things you have to keep in mind. It becomes excruciating when you have to concentrate on so many things," Shanmugasundaram told IANS.

What challenges do you face while shooting outdoors?

"There are so many things such as light, weather, permission to shoot, location, etc. Sometimes we wait for hours for the perfect lighting for a scene or wait for days for the rain to stop. It's way beyond our control and yet we have to shoot overcoming all these challenges," he added.

Known for his work in Tamil films such as "Aarohanam" and "Rowthiram", he is currently shooting for an untitled Tamil project starring Aadi Pinisetty.

When asked if he could highlight one advantage of shooting outdoors, he said: "The biggest advantage of shooting outdoors is the freedom you get with space. Shooting indoors restricts you in terms of the space, but it's very unlikely to happen when you're shooting outdoors."
