Shelby GT350 Raced by Stirling Moss Set for Auction

George Kennedy
9 July 2013

When you have won sixteen Formula 1 Gran Prix races and came in first more than forty percent of your 500+ race career, every car you’ve ever been in will be of great value to the motorsport community. That is the case with Sir Stirling Moss, where even an errant taxi cab he may have been in once is worth something. So when a Shelby Mustang once raced by Moss is set to go across the auction block, it is cause to focus in, and pay attention to what will likely be a hefty transaction price.

But when did Moss race Shelby Mustangs? Well he didn’t, not originally. According to MustangsDaily, Moss purcahsed this 1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 in the early 1990s, and raced in nine different vintage venues from 1991 to 1997, winning the Targa Tasmania.

The car is number 89 of the original 252-unit build. The car comes with the Colorado bill of sale and title from Sir Stirling, as well as plenty of photo documentation of Moss in the car, as along with a few shots of both Moss and Shelby.

No estimate has been given for its value, but expect big dollars when it crosses the block at the Mecum Auctions in Monterey August 15-17.
