Shoojit Sircar: I am not meant for DABANGG or KRRISH

By Rachana Sheth, Glamsham Editorial

Though Shoojit Sircar co-produced VICKY DONOR and MADRAS CAFE along with John Abraham, he turns an independent producer with his upcoming film RUNNING SHAADI.COM, produced under his Rising Sun Films banner.

But the new producer on the block, Shoojit Sircar believes in making small budget films rather than making opulent ventures. In fact, his new film RUNNING SHAADI.COM will also be a small budget outing.

Says Shoojit, "RUNNING SHAADI.COM will be a small budget film. I believe in small budget films as I don't like being spendthrift. If the budgets are right, then recoveries are also right and it encourages many other small filmmakers and for me too it's a motivation to make more films. Even actors and everything else falls in place easily," and adds, "I believe in doing good films. But that doesn't mean you can't make spectacles. You can make DABANGGs or KRRISHs, that's a different genre altogether. Those spectacles have their market, but the kind of cinema I believe in is infotainment..."

So ask him if he will ever try his hands in making extravaganzas like KRRISH or a DABANGG and Shoojit, without batting an eyelid, forthrightly says, "I am not at all meant for KRRISH or DABANGG kind of films. I will rather make a huge MADRAS CAFE or a LAGAAN...but I am not saying that they are not sensible. Ultimately what matters is how you engage your audience for two hours? If you go back home thinking about my film then I am happy, even if you don't but those two hours if you enjoyed the movie then my job is done."

RUNNING SHAADI.COM, directed by Amit first-timer Amit Roy, stars KAI PO CHE! fame Amit Sadh and CHASHME BADDOOR fame Taapsee Pannu in the lead and will be primarily shot in Punjab.
