Top Ten Tuned Rides from 2013

Like our article on the best and worst looking convertibles of 2013 proved, beauty is in fact in the eye of the beholder, and many commenters let us have it! But take a stroll through our tuners section, and you’ll see a lot of cars that are universally repulsive– it’s just a product of that section of the automotive world. But there are some cars that truly stand out as great looking tuner cars with serious performance. Here are our favorite ten tunes of 2013 (in no particular order– so you can duke it out in the comments).

2013 LT Motorwerks Liberty Walk BMW M3

LT BMW

The M3 Coupe is saying adieu, replaced by the all-new BMW M4. What a better way to send off the beloved German performance coupe than with a bonkers tune. You start with an E92 BMW M3, toss on a wide body kit, a wider track, revised aero front back and sides, and then you fit a supercharger on top of the existing 4.0-liter V8. The result is a 500 horsepower monster, set in Laguna Seca Blue. It is one fitting swan song for the M3 Coupe.

2013 Brabus Mercedes-Benz B63S Widestar

Brabus

The Dubai Police have some pretty epic rides, but one of our favorite has to be this modified G-Wagen. Brabus is a well-known for tuning Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and they have taken the 536 horsepower G55 AMG, and tuned it to 690 horsepower. The result is a police vehicle that can get from zero to sixty in a scant 4.9 second. I wouldn’t speed in Dubai.

2014 ABT Audi RS7

ABT RS7

We love ourselves a good sleeper sportscar, and while many think that its just about making a muscle car look stock, there are other ways of going about it. ABT took the already wonderful RS7 and tuned it out to an impressive 700 horsepower. The fact that you can’t tell at all that this RS7 was tuned makes it one of the best sleepers that we’ve seen in some time.

2013 LB Bape Lamborghini Aventador

Bape

Bape does some wild visual projects, applying variations of cammo schemes to all sorts of supercars. One of their happy customers is professional skier Jon Olsson. The man has a penchant for Lamborghinis, which usually doesn’t jibe with carrying a set of skis to work everyday. So he is in constant demand of customized Lambos with cargo cases fixed to the roof. There is no better way to bring your skis to work everyday.

2013 Villner BMW Bullshark

BMW Bullshark

The original BMW 6 Series had a unique forward-slanting grille that BMW fans affectionately called the “shark nose.” Perhaps that was the impetus behind the Vilner “Bullshark” project. The project takes a modern 6 Series and crafts new headlights, hood, grille, fenders and rear fascia for a nautical themed tune that we cant stop looking at. The 370 horsepower is a little pedestrian, but with looks like that, we can forgive it!

2013 Newport Convertible Engineering Acura TL

Acura TL

We can’t say we’re in love with this TL convertible. In fact, its downright reprehensible, but we can’t help feeling like we want to meet the folks that have the stones to take on a project like this. Its sheer insanity is what puts it on this list.

2013 Wimmer KTM X-Bow

X-Bow

The X-Bow is a stripped out sportscar that weighs next to nothing. In stock form, it makes 285 horsepower– more than enough to propel the minimalist two-seater. So why would anyone take a car this light and up output to 435 horsepower. If you have to ask questions like that, you might be in the wrong place.

2014 Roush Stage 3 Mustang

Roush Mustang

Tuners come and go, but Roush has been doing the pony car tuning thing year after year. Roush took the 5.0-liter V8 from the Mustang GT and tossed on a supercharger and intercooler, to net either 575 horsepower or 625 horsepower, depending on your insanity. Either would be just fine for us.

2013 Scion Racing/Greddy FR-S

Greddy FR-S

We absolutely love the Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S. The ONLY critique we hear from readers is that it does not have enough horsepower. We try to explain that there are more things to a sportscar than straight-line acceleration, but they simply won’t listen. For those power-hungry folks, there is the Scion Racing/Greddy FR-S. For those in the tuning realm, Greddy is a trusted name for turbochargers, and with the FR-S they did not disappoint.

Greddy and Scion Racing bored out the boxer engine to 2.5-liters and turbocharged it, resulting in an insane 600 horsepower Formula Drift Car. We love it.

2014 Hennessey Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Corvette

The Stingray was one of the biggest stories of 2013, and the Chevy sportscar was not complete until the folks form Hennessy get their power-happy mitts on it. The Stingray was no exception. A series of small mods results in a Vette with either 500 or 600 horsepower, depending on your insanity. We can only imagine what it’s like to drive a monster like this, and question if we even have what it takes to run a 600-hp Corvette at top speed at the Texas mile. We’d sure love to find out though.
