A case has been filed against Madhur Bhandarkar for ‘stealing’ idea for ‘Fashion’
It comes four years late but Madhur Bhandarkar is in hot water again. A complaint has been filed against him for allegedly stealing the plot and idea of Fashion from Seema Seth’s book El-Dorado which was published months before the release. The matter was being heard at a Metropolitian court since January before being transferred to a special court dealing with Copyright Act.
A special court in Delhi passed the plea filed by the actress turned author who alleged that Fashion was a ‘clear-cut violation of the Copyright Act and has demanded a compensation of Rs2.5 crore. She has also made UTV Motion Pictures a party in the case.

However according to the book, the plot begins in Kolkata where an aspiring model wishes to go to Mumbai but her father opposes and mother supports. But the Seth alleges that the story of the film is the same and no permission was sought from her during the making of the film. The film is set against the glamorous world of fashion, is a story of a small-town girl who aspires to be a supermodel and her journey through the dark labyrinth of success. The film was released in 2008.
