Vidya Balan enthralls audience with her UNHOOKED book reading

By Anaam, Glamsham Editorial

She excels in whatever she does and it could not have been more evident than at the launch and reading of UNHOOKED, the new novel by Munmun Ghosh, at Landmark, Infiniti Mall, Versova, Mumbai.

We have seen Vidya Balan in films, performing roles that have won her best acting honors at award functions year after year. She has won every award, including the National Award, and no other actress in the history of Indian cinema has had the kind of box-office pull she has today. She has succeeded by her talent and will power alone, overcoming various odds.

If one thought she was just making a brief appearance at the UNHOOKED launch function the way most of the celebrities do, one was mistaken. Her conviction in the book and its author was total. She made it a point to talk copiously about the book and recommend it strongly in front of the media. She ensured that the focus remained on the main subject and not on her. She was aware of the penchant of the media to veer around the celebrity and she was determined not to let that happen.

However, the real surprise of the evening was her reading of select excerpts from the book. She was not going to perform a customary lackluster ritual before moving on to the next event in her itinerary the way it is normally done. Like a true artiste she turned it into an enjoyable experience for everyone. She almost cast a spell on the audience with her impeccable diction and heartfelt and expressive reading. Everyone was enthralled. She breathed life into the words of the novel. Those who had to wait for a while longer were well compensated for the trouble taken. They were watching a great actress performing live a truly beautiful act par-excellence.

She proved it beyond doubt that she was not called the Big B among all Bollywood actresses for nothing. If she has stood up to the competition from the mighty Khans and carved a solid niche and audience base of her own in a male-star driven Bollywood milieu, there are reasons for that. She is one of the few truly talented, sensible, sensitive, and committed actresses in the industry who take their profession very seriously, and work hard on their art and craft. She justifies the faith of her audience and does not shortchange them. Her extraordinary success is well deserved and well earned.
