Zila Ghaziabad Music Review

By Abid, Bollywood Trade Editorial

Director Anand Kumar is a relatively new name in the Hindi film industry, and his last two films, DELHI HEIGHTS (Jimmy Shergill) and JUGAAD (Manoj Bajpai), may have failed to score commercially but had some reasonably good musical scores. This time for ZILA GHAZIABAD the music has been composed by Amjad -Nadeem and lyricist Shabbir Ahmed pens the songs. Guest composer Bappa Lahiri comes in for an item number as well. So let's check out what the team has to offer for this multi-starrer, 'masala' action fare! The title song 'Zila Ghaziabad' opens the album, and is a theme song that introduces the lead protagonists of the film in a very entertaining and interesting manner. Sukhwinder Singh is just the right man for the occasion and his zealous, vociferous and energetic rendition sets the pace for this all out 'masala' flick. A nice promotional music video featuring all the lead actors have been doing the rounds. The racy tune, good apt arrangements and lyrics that are a good mix of Hindi and 'Khadi Boli' of western UP. Next up is a romantic track, 'Ranjha Jogi' sung by none other than the prince of romantic numbers, Sonu Nigam, and the new nightingale herself, Shreya Ghoshal, and it is reason enough to savour the number. A soft, melodious, slightly semi-classical composition with lovely Hindustani arrangements like harmonium, 'tabla' form the base for this nice composition. The customary item number that is so quintessential in all 'masala' action fare follows this love duet, and the flavor of the season, Mamta Sharma (after 'Fevicol se'), Sukhwinder Singh and Mika Singh come together for 'Baap Ka Maal'. A cute, fun filled, naughty and entertaining item/ dance number and a potential chartbuster. Both the lead singers Mamta and Mika are in top form and Sukhwinder joins for a brief moment. Lyrics are humorous and entertaining and cheeky without being cheap or vulgar. The number appears twice with the second version 'Baap Ka Maal' 'Rock Again' sung by Mika and Anupama Raag, and is more of a remix version with more of western music instruments thrown in to give the song a rockish touch!Quite easily the best song of the album, 'Tu Hai Rab Mera', rendered by Mohit Chauhan and Tulsi Kumar, strikes and surprises at the same time as one did not expect such a superb melodious romantic outing in all out 'masala' action fare. Rich melody, nice fusion arrangements and some heartfelt lyrics and not to mention, outstanding rendition by the talented artists are the USP of the track. The song is however a rehashed version and was previously heard in the director's last film, JUGAAD, and was rendered by the talented Krishna and it was more classically inclined and 'sufi' at heart and soul with a surfeit of Punjabi.

The last to arrive is another item number 'Chamiya No. 1' composed by guest composer, Bappa Lahiri, and is rendered by none other than the original queen bee of item numbers, Sunidhi Chauhan, in her seductive and raunchy vocals, and is ably accompanied by Shadab Sabri. However the number turns out to be pale shadow of 'Munni' due to its oft repeated tune and arrangements.Summing up, the album of ZILA GHAZIABAD is quite in line with what was expected and the team has done a decent enough job keeping in mind the all-out action theme of the movie. The best of the lot is easily 'Tu Hai Rab Mera, and 'Baap Ka Maal' will surely appeal to the target audience. The songs should garner more popularity after the film releases.
