The mind/body connection

Yoga can help you lose weight and keep it off, says yogi Colleen Saidman, star of Yoga for Weight Loss from Gaiam. She adds that yoga helps develop mindfulness, which can translate to feeling full on less food. Researchers agree: A study from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center found that downward-dog lovers were more mindful eaters - and weighed less - than walkers and runners.

Practicing yoga may also decrease stress hormones, which can lead to abdominal fat - possibly the most dangerous kind of flab. Yoga battles stress and anxiety, and not just during class. Less stress (and more activity) helps you snooze better.
