The third generation of the Ford Mustang unveiled in 1979 was meant to reclaim some of the sportiness lost with the efficiency obsessed second-generation. Based on the Fox midsize car chassis, the Fox-body Mustang was the result of four years of experiments by Ford designers. Here's a look at the ideas they considered and later threw away — including a woody wagon.
