Rapid modernization of Chinese navy major concern: Indian Navy chief

Viewing the rapid modernization of Chinese Navy as a "major concern", Indian Navy Chief Admiral Devendra Kumar Joshi today made it clear that India will protect its interests in the disputed South China Sea, even if it means sending forces there. Speaking to mediapersons in New Delhi, Joshi said that rapid modernisation of the Chinese navy was worrisome for India. In a new rule, China has planned to board and search ships sailing in what it considers its territory in the South China Sea. Admiral Joshi also revealed that the country was performing naval exercises to visit the South China Sea as a measure of defence for the ONGC Videsh exploration project in that region.
